Be very quiet ...... they can hear you. I.....
Have two of them. I think there out to get me.
Especially since I have been spending more time in my caravan.
I know I said caravan STOP laughing at me.
She is the most reliable with only 40k miles and it has a Pioneer N3 Navigation w live traffic, DVD, Touch screen, iPod controller 4000 watts of bass. Nice rims and tints. Not to mention I consider it my tool box.
Yep those two A8 just sit there plotting against me as I >run< to the van and split.

Come on now!
Please! don't make this so hard!!!
Life is not so hard as all that!
Check fluid levels
Transmission less than fully warmed up. Yes 45 C Just too hot for comfort The warmer it is, the "fuller" the transmission will appear, But within reason. Cold will work just fine only slightly overfilled.
Remove the fill plug. (NOT the drain plug)
If fluid flows out, fine let it, the transmission IS overfilled, let some out.
If fluid does not flow from the fill port, add some! It's a bit low.
You would add some if you read a low dip stick. Right?
And the trend is not only AUDI, The GM transmission in my 2000 Isuzu has no dip stick either! (4L30E) Plus the transmission has an overdrive unit seperate from the main transmission. Guess what? No dip stick there either.
Now the frosting on this oratory, A rebuild for the 4L30E transmission is priced at over $3500!
and the Isuzu lists are filled with horror stories of problems with the transmission. ( right next to the testimony of units with over 250K miles on them ;-)
Jeesh, I'm HAPPY with the AUDI!
Yep, Happy indeed.

Don't forget to add to all that "completely unsupported from the factory out of warranty". Maso...
...chism at it's finest? Not only having owned more than one... but owning more than one simulatneously... or three.
ARGH!
Paging Dr. Freud, Dr. Sigmund Freud please pick up the white courtesy phone.
I was pretty bad, but Termin8r here takes the cake, ice cream, spoon, dish, etc. GLUTTON - gotta love it...

Did I forget to mention?
Oh! I did forget that the engine should be Running during the above fluid check and the transmission should have been cycled through the gears. Silly me
It is a bit uncomfortable to be under a car supported on jackstands while running, but not too bad on the drive on ramps, They just seem more solid.
Jeesh these A8s are heavy, get GOOD stout ramps or stands !
regards
