Ever see a 97 A8 Morph into a 00 A8? Mine is!
So the transformation is begining.....my car morphed three of the dash switches this weekend to the 00 and newer style:

I started to do the wiring....as you might recall, I was making jumper wires from the 00 switches to the 97 switch connector....here is a picture of the rear headrest switch, very easy, just four wires, a momentary switch and the old one was momentary.

Then tape it all up and push it back in the dash.
So when I went to go do the front and rear fog light switches, I didn't realize that they are MOMENTARY switches and the old style are MAINTAINING switches. The 00 and newer switches go to a fog light control module which toggles them on and off when you press the button. The older style either provides power to the front fog light relay (continuous power) or powers the rear fog light bulb directly.
So what was I gonna do? Add a maintaining relay of course! The relay maintains power flow through the circuit after the fog light button is pressed. So how do I turn off the front or rear fog lights? I cycle either the headlight power or the ignition switch....easy enough without making it too complicated.
So I bought the smallest 12 VDC relay I could and added it to the switch. They work! However, when the rear fog light is on, it doesn't switch the front fogs on for some reason (will have to look it up), but that suits me just fine.
Here's the schematic, the new portion is in red....and the actual picture of the relay installed after. The relay is the little blue square thing.

Here's the three switches, it's tight in the dash!

I'm working on the emergency flasher, it works differently than the 97 also.....it has the flasher relay built into it....but I think I have it figured out, just need to make two connections into the right and left flasher buses.
It's coming along! I would not recommend this to anybody except the craziest people!

You can say that again! What a lobotomy.
That said, the nav+ is awesome and worth the work (or fun in your case!
Will I need this additional 12vdc relay to run the iPod off a fog lamp switch? Is it a rat shack item?
