Right now about the only thing going for me is the fact that when it broke, i was nearly at a standstill, so I hope the damage is minimal. Ugh.

Default Man, I'm sorry! :-(

I know my car suffered the same fate with the previous owner. I hope you get out of this one with minimal repair.

Default Sad to hear... was it ready to be replaced?

It would help us to know if we need to be overly paranoid with maintenance.

Default It was likely the tensioner

Failure of the tensioner is very likely the cause of the belt failure.

Cart before the horse.

Still, if the engine was running when the elt let go, bad stuff happens inside. Bent valves can be replaced quite easily, but nothing is cheap.

Sorry for your loss

Default Yes, I should have clarified...it was the tensioner that failed. For some reason or another, the

previous owner replaced JUST THE BELT (I didn't even know that was possible, let alone advisable by anyone with more than 2 brain cells). So the belt is in perfect condition, just no tension. Jeez.

Default Unless you got just the belt replaced, I don't think you have much to worry about. The moron

who owned the car previously apparently just replaced the belt and not the tensioner. If you're keeping track, the car went 114K on the original tensioner...i guess that's just beyond factory recommendation, so get it done when you're supposed to and you should be good.

Default I would borrow a borescope to inspect the pistons before buying any parts.

A replacement engine will be way cheaper and easier to deal with. Just sayin....
