Right now about the only thing going for me is the fact that when it broke, i was nearly at a standstill, so I hope the damage is minimal. Ugh.

It was likely the tensioner
Failure of the tensioner is very likely the cause of the belt failure.
Cart before the horse.
Still, if the engine was running when the elt let go, bad stuff happens inside. Bent valves can be replaced quite easily, but nothing is cheap.

Yes, I should have clarified...it was the tensioner that failed. For some reason or another, the
previous owner replaced JUST THE BELT (I didn't even know that was possible, let alone advisable by anyone with more than 2 brain cells). So the belt is in perfect condition, just no tension. Jeez.

Unless you got just the belt replaced, I don't think you have much to worry about. The moron
who owned the car previously apparently just replaced the belt and not the tensioner. If you're keeping track, the car went 114K on the original tensioner...i guess that's just beyond factory recommendation, so get it done when you're supposed to and you should be good.
