Default Your work truly is a thing to behold Paul. If I may be so bold to ask...

How many devalued $US and how long did it take you to sort it out?

Default It's actually very simple to do a retrofit

A lot more simple than when I changed a dash out on my 97.

This is what you need:

RNS-E, Nav disc, GPS antenna: Anywhere from $700-1400 (I purchased mine from a local source that is trusted for $1400 with the above including a plug and play wiring harness).

Wiring harness. If you have an 02 or 03, most will work, takes about 30 minutes total to hook the unit up, just pull the radio, plug in the harness, plug into the unit, you're done.

If you have an 00 or 01, you'll need to hook up the CAN bus wires also.....maybe the illuminatation.

Custom wiring harness: I got one to do everything I needed from Ted Basile.....top notch quality had everything I needed to go from Symphony I radio to RNS-E including factory bluetooth, factory XM and maintaining the existing CD changer. I had to get a $40 cable from Crutchfield, and Ted charged $290. Worth every penny and a lot more.

XM or Sirius tuner. You need a special one (latest rev) to work with RNS-E, I got one from $250 from my dealer, his cost was $350.

Bluetooth module. I got a factory new module from Riverside Audi, with it, antenna and shipping it was $430.

So that brings the total to: $2,410

I know that's a hell of a lot of money, I could of done everything with a RNS-D but would not have factory integration of XM or bluetooth for about $1150 (I bought everything except the harness, but sold it to somebody else with an 01 S8 and will be installing it next month), but I figured what the hell, everyone says it's better and I'll have the car for at least 4 years and probably 5-6.

I still have the multi function steering wheel I want to retrofit, just waiting for a few more parts and will be finishing up the engineering for it.

That was:

$265 Steering wheel and airbag on ebay
$100 MFSW control module from junk yard
$100 Relay socket holder and wires (guesstimate)

So that's another $450 or so.....but it will be very cool and very factory.

Tint the windows to 35% and I should be done for a while.....

Oh yea, need those bi-xenons and I'll be done....I swear!!!!

This car rocks!!!

Default Haven't done that yet

But I have located an 03 S8 ECU. I just need somebody with an 02 or 03 to let me plug in to see if it enables sport mode.....

Or maybe for my wallet to recover?

Oh, I wish I was rich like rich people in Chicago......

At least I'm happy when I drive my car!

Default Awesome Work!

I will have to bookmark this and all the rest of your progress posts. Seriously, that'll give the car a bunch more years . . and it just looks cool.

So the Bluetooth dialing happens from the screen?

Sweet!
