First personal impressions about '01 S8 compare to '96 A8q 3.7
All of you know a perfomance differences - S8 simply another ligue, but there are some negative things for me:
- S8 brake pedal travelling too big. I remember Ryoung story about this. Today I drove my "old" A8 after 3 days of S8 driving - brake pedal travelling much better and naturaly;
-motor sound - is it normal that S8 motor sound quite louder inside a cabin than A8 3.7 at same rpm?
Moreover I like A8 motor sound at 3000 rpm - steady stream, while S8 sound - slightly pulsatile.
-elecrically not foldable side mirrors - I don't understand why this options not standart with so big mirrors;
-stock euro spec bi-xenon headlights - its looks good until not lights. When working - people might thinks that you install very cheap blue galogen bulbs in old rectangular reflector type headligts. Meanwhile perfumance much worse, simply not comparable with lens type bi-xenon. Light too bluish with same HID lamps. I think there is a sort of color filter on inner glass.
I'm not wonder why Audi forget about this type of headlights.
And first tecnical problem of course - steering wheel turn easy to one direction and harder to another. It looks like whole steering gear problem, not suspension or alignment.
Have any experience on this occasion?
Some people says that quite common for 95-98 cars, but for 01 may be too early (mileage 58K).
Steering gear made by ZF (again this name) and there is a option to buy slightly cheaper new if trade in old one.
Any data about same cases are welcom.

Re: the master cylinder.
The m/c's bore diameter is a tradeoff between pedal travel and pedal firmness (larger diameter => firmer with less travel), but this isn't adjustable short of replacing the master cylinder with another with a different bore diameter. Do alternatives exist for the A8/S8?

There is a fork with a lock nut on the end of the MC.
a = 135mm =/- 0.5mm. I have mine around 138mm. I did not measure the pedal travel before and after, but I think mine has 12mm-15mm less than before. I don't remember it was 2 or 3 turn on the fork counterclockwise. BTW you don't have to take it out, just take the pin from the pedal, loosen the locknut, turn the fork and secure with the locknut again.
