Fuel Pump Replacement Follow-up

Fuel Pump Replacement Follow-up
I'd promised to post the internal part number off the fuel pump we'd recently replaced on the '97 D2 A8Q 4.2L.
The fuel delivery assembly actually snaps apart pretty easily-- it's a wonder of German plastics fabrication. At its core, though, looks like a stock VDO pump.
It has an embossed 4-Ring logo on the side, but has VDO markings all over it:
VDO part number 4D0906091
I think this matches the part number posted recently by another member for the pump out of a 1998 D2, as well.
I'm going to order a new pump to repair this unit as a spare.
As the weather gets colder,
the heated seats are feeling even better!

Part Number 4D0 is an A8 prefix
So to get this correct, has anybody ordered just the pump/motor combination, sucsessfully recieved it, installed it and it works?

Re: Part Number 4D0 is an A8 prefix
Paul,
Not yet, but I'll go ahead and order from the online source posted before, re-assembly, install and report back. All three of my D2s have over 130K on them, so I'm thinking I'll start carrying a spare in the trunk.
Gabor indicated he'd changed his in a parking lot during a trip in not much time, out of necessity, so it's probably reasonable to have a spare on hand. It looks like these things aren't good for 500K miles and, like the TB, can fail at a most inopportune time.

Did you reassemble already? Any problems?
I replaced mine and I'm having problems with fuel pick-up. After fill-up I can only travel 7 gallons worth then the car runs out of fuel even though there is 3/4 of a tank left. I'm in the process of disassembling and reassembling according to the Bentley (to the letter).

^^^PaulW, this is the pump ordered and installed in my car.^^^
The pump works fine, starts and runs great. My issues as you may already know stem from fuel not getting to the pump after 7 gallons of use.

http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=h0iqtvzk3dbspx3zyzh34sjr&part number=8A0906091G</a
