Gimme a lift!

Re: Santa got me a 48" mid rise scissor lift for christmas
I'm looking into a Norco 86002 mid-rise lift to work on the wife's '02 S6 and my Porsche 993. I like the Norco version because it doesn't have the cross-member that would get in the way of me dropping the engine/tranny of the 993.
My question to you OOOOya, is: do you think you could drop the tranny of your S6 using the mid-rise lift? I've done a bunch of searching on the forum and I can't seem to find an answer.
I need to swap out our torque converter, and I'm wondering if there's enough clearance to get everything out of there with the scissor lift underneath. I'd love to see some photos of your S6 on the lift to get an idea of the feasibility of my plans.
Also, how stable does the 4000lb wagon seem up there? I know the lifts are rated to 6000lb, but I'm wondering how well the movable jack point arms handle the big car. Do they bend appreciably?
I'd appreciate any input from folks with experience in the matter.

Yes, maybe...
...Although because of where the lift pivots on the floor a transmission jack may not be able to get directly under the transmission before running into that pivot point on the floor - that's something I might check out myself next time I've got the S on the lift.
Otherwise, there is a generous amount of room to access everything under the car before running into any lift crossmembers. I have a good photo of a Honda Civic on it which illustrates the excellent access below...
Sleeper8 on this forum actually pushed me over the edge so-to-speak on getting a lift and I got the same one he has - Greg Smith Atlas Pro 6MR
Recently he completed a DIY-at-home transmission R&R on his A8 Good picture of car on lift with no engine trans here
He might better know if you could drop transmission only.
As for stability of the lift, it seems solid enough as long as you don't really start rocking the car a lot. Since getting it, I've had both Audi's on for work - the A6 for an alternator and rear wheel bearing, and the S6 got H&R springs and Hotchkis sway bars.
The arms don't bend, but the wide surfaces that they rest on do deflect a bit (not an alarming amount). There is a large nut you can use to adjust the resting angle of the arms and I've set mine to have a slight upward angle so when a car is on them they don't end up with a downward angle.
The Civic is centered (front to back) on the lift

Re: Yes, maybe...
Thanks!
Actually, I kept searching after I posted the message last night and found Sleeper8's thread regarding the transmission work. It looks like he is using a scissor lift so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
I'm going to pull the trigger and get the Norco lift. I can't believe my wife agreed to it!!!
She says, "The S6 gets whatever it needs. I want to keep it forever." How's that for a mate?
Cheers,
Todd

bringing up a dead thread, but i just installed a maxjax the lift in the op and it's great for limited room. Other than a scissor lift it was my only option. I made a 3 model of my garage (nerd alert) with google sketchup and various rough models of lifts.
It's a great lift for what it is and if you get the griots garage detailing creeper the height isn't a problem as long as you are comfortable sitting... yeah sitting that's a lot worse than standing :-p. Yeah a full height lift would be nice, but it sure beats jack stands.
