Default I've seen it happen a few times. There is actually

an adhesive designed specifically for re-attaching the mirror to glass.

Default "adhesive designed specifically for re-attaching the mirror to glass"

Is it made by audi? The "stuff" from Pep Boys only leads to messy, sticky frustration.

It happened to mine. Went to Dealer for adhesive and he sent me out to the lot where a Windshield installer was installing a windshield on one of the used cars. He used a 2 part adhesive to re-attach the mirror. See a windshield company for a proper re-attachment.

It happened to me once, but that's why I stopped buying Fords.

It's like an epoxy. Get it at body shops.

Default Is there a way to remove the round metal insert?

Default Very good, what we need to know is how to remove the small metal piece from

the mirror housing in order to glue it to the windshield. Is there any way to do this. We have had this happen to a "domestic" and were able to remove the silver piece by simply sliding it up, allowing it to cure onto the glass and then sliding the mirror back on.

With the A8's set-up, it seems to be not nearly as straightforward given the hardened wire casing that leads from the headliner to the mirror which leaves no margin for error as well as no gap for "sliding" the mirror onto a metal piece. Bottom line is the duct-tape will only hold for so long
