Default HELP! windshield replacement - (long)

I have searched and read about getting the front windshield replaced, the problem is the local glass companies are not getting the correct glass.

does anyone have a name of a larger nationwide glass chain that they have used with success?

the local companies here in KC are coming up with a glass that has a rear view mirror mount on it. besides being tinted a noticeable GREEN!

I might be somewhat new but I thought ALL A8's had a roof mounted rear view mirror

The local Audi dealer can get glass next Tuesday but at $400+, then I still have to pay someone $100 to put it in - which noone here will pay for the glass if it breaks while they are installing it. If the glass company buys it they want $1000 installed

My glass is now severely cracked by the glass company that tried to remove it and then noticed they had the incorrect glass.

Default Check your insurance policy

If you haven't already - had mine replaced 3 or 4 times on the old A8, never a charge, part of the policy here in CT....original audi glass, replaced by JN phillips....

Default The A8 has the rear view mirror attached to the glass.

There is a plastic piece that covers the wiring that comes down from the roof. The color they are ordering is another matter.

Default The facelifts might be different

See how the mirror doesn't attach to the window?

Default Re: Check your insurance policy

I was originally just going to pay for it myself, but with all the trouble I think I am going to let the insurance pay for it.

Yes they evidently are, your pic proves it. I even had them look at getting one for an 01 but they still came up with the same issue.

Will probably just go oem and have the insurance handle it.

Default here at least, they allow for 1

replacement/yr, no deductible, and it hasn't affected my premiums - that I know of - just keep going down nicely every year...

Default going oem - letting insurance handle it

it seems the aftermarket glass companies have grouped all A8's into the same glass design, just different tint colors or insulation options.

just decied to have the insurance handle it and they are getting an oem one for me

thanks for the input guys
