Hey Gondar- while we're on the subject of transmissions..
I'm having difficulty finding Valvoline MerconV fluid, but I can get Maxlife. It's time to change the filter/fluid on my '01 S8 w/75,000 miles and I don't want to screw it up. Since you're the acknowledged guru, I want to be sure I'm using the right stuff.What do you think??

I've bought it at Murray's discount auto, but I don't know if they still have it.
The last time Ive used it they had synthetic only. We use Mobil 1 mercon V synthetic for over two years now. It is recommended by BMW.<ul><li><a href="http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Synthetic_ATF.aspx">Walmart has it for $5.50/Qt</a></li></ul>

I had trouble finding it for my other car ('93 740i w/ZF 5HP30) which uses the same fluid, and I ultimately used Castrol Synthetic Multivehicle ATF, which claims to meet the same spec. $4 per quart at Pep Boys. So far (2000 mi later) everything seems fine. I will let the Board know if a fluid-related issue arises.
