Hey guys... visitor from the other sections in audiworld. Wondering what's the demand for A8 parts?
I have plans to transplant a 4.2 into my 90quattro (the green car in my sig.) So somehow I need to come across an engine, and there are two ways I can go about this. I can either get just a motor from a wrecker, or else I can try to find a complete A8 from which to grab the engine.
Getting a whole car of course benefits the most people, however worst case is I don't want to end up with most of a car that nobody needs/wants parts off. So I figured I'd ask here to see if it's feasible to assume I could part out 80% of an A8. I've very very loosely got a car in the works... a Black on Black '97 with 144,000miles. No damage, but no real information regarding the drivetrain either. If you guys give me your input/feedback that'd really help me to determine whether or not this is something I'd like to get involved in. thanks a lot -Rob |
We haven't seen much of parted out cars here.
Yet.
That said, I'm pretty sure several have bought parts from the used parts guys, like Shokan. The radios in the 97s are a 97 only thing. 97s are Deltas, 98s and 99s are Concert, 2000+ is Symphony. Not sure if the later cars got Symphony II. |
I would just get an engine and the wiring harness. It will take forever to part out an A8 here.

thanks for the input

thanks for your opinion.. I too would rather just the engine, as it's far less work for me
|
why not just drive the undamaged A8?

I cant really say theres much to be parted, but people need things every now and then. But keep us
posted on your transplant. I have an old Cq Id like to do that to.

Re: thanks for your opinion.. I too would rather just the engine, as it's far less work for me
If your donor engine has more than 100k miles then you might consider freshening up the cylinder heads before you install the engine. I just did head gaskets on my 120K 32V engine and the valve guides were a little loose. I had guides put in since they are 6mm and are very short. This makes for more airflow but shorter life. My motor is peppier now and I get 20mpg with the A/C on as opposed to 18 before the valve job.
