Audi has made this mistake before (syn: see A8) and couldn't get rid of the 8s off the lot for $55K (actual offer including all incentives last year when I bought an A6 4.2Q for $51K out the door). What makes them think this version of the A8 will go for a $20K premium?

What I mean is that customers out there are actually perceiving the value of the car to be higher
than MSRP. Edmunds is saying that the average transaction for the S8 is a little over MSRP. Never before has an A8 of any sort managed this. Since the market will not be flooded with S8s, there is no reason the S8 should not hold much better resale values than the previous versions of the A8 ( yeah, yeah, it's not saying much;-).
When I started in '96, there were no A8s. In '97 and '98 we ( the dealership I worked at ) sold one or two a year. In '99 I personally sold two and the dealership sold 4. In 2000, I sold 5 A8s and the dealership 7 in all. Used to be 2500 cars a year. Now it's close to 4000 a year if you include the S8.
