Its really a 10hr job, its gear driven behind the AC compressor. A regular Audi is belt driven and only a few hours to change. 4.2 V8 S engine is a complete nightmare. I wouldn't let any average mechanic even attempt it!

On the d2, it is belt driven and not that hard to change, gear driven p/s doesn't exist on this platform.

I paid 300$ for labor to install new pump.

Thats sounds about right. I paid 200 for mine from a private mechanic. It took about 2 hours, but he had to take a part the rebuilt pump and the old pump since the company that rebuilt it didnt put a pin in to prevent the pully from coming out.
