How to remove the Climate control unit - A8 ?

God morning fellow Audi drivers !

I have a 1995 A8 and ned to change some bulbs in the display on my Climate control unit.
I have successfully removed the radio and the air fuse above, but cant seem to figure out how to remove the wood deck around it all. I need to remove that also to get out det climate control unit...

Can someone please help me with the final steps to remove the unit ??

Too bad it's not that easy

First off, remove the center vent above the switches....directions can be found here:

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/electrical_equipment/ipodinstall.html

You'll need to get access to the one screw holding the black cage in by removing the vent. Remove the phillips head screw. You can't see it in this picture, but it's right under the dash.

Then take both console side panels off.....you can find directions here:

Now that they are removed, you can unbolt the side screws.....I believe there are two per side, but could be three.

Here's a picture of a pre facelift Nav Plus cage, I believe it only has two screws per side. They are 4mm screws, un do them.

Then the whole console will come out, something like this:

Once that's done, you can unscrew the wood faceplate and then unscrew the HVAC unit (you obvioulsy have to disconnect the wires also) and then you can open it up and change the bulbs out.

Hi Jørn, I just replaced the same 3 bulbs a couple of days ago.

You do not have to take the Climate Control unit all the way out to replace the bulbs. Once the whole console is out, it is easier to remove the wood trim (4 small nuts), now you can just unscrew the 7 tiny screws from the front of the AC unit, and the face comes right off. That way you do not need too disconnect the AC unit.

The original bulbs are 0.9w 12V however they can be replaced with 1.1w 12v, Audi Part # 4a0-919-040-c. I can not tell the difference. Make sure to replace "all 3 bulbs". You don't want do this again in a few weeks when the last one goes.
