Default HVAC issue: Is this something I should be concerned about? Codes: 734 & 1592

I just received my Autonostics cable and hooked up VWTool, as per the recommendation of TwinCitiesS8. I retrieved two codes 734 and 1592. 734 is a problem with the center vent position sensor G142 (Open or Short to B+ INTERMITTENT). I took a look at "ONDemand" for the A8. There may be a short circuit or open circuit in the wiring between the G142 sensor and the E87 A/C control head. However, to test the G142 sensor (for impedance) it appears that one needs to connect a real VAG 1598/19 unit to the wiring harness for the E87, which seems to be behind the radio (or at least it needs to be removed). Hence, if this is important I seem to be taking the car in - that is, unless someone knows of an alternative.

The 1592 code is an "unkown code" and I could find no mention of it. Of course, I don't have a Bentley manual.

If anyone has any information on either of these codes, or just general information relevant to the problems, I would be interested to hear from them.

Default Addendum

Just for the record, in the summer I had already noticed that the air seemed to be cooler coming from the passenger's side center vent, versus the driver's side center vent. So, I suspect that the little bugger might be partially (or fully) stuck in one position. Apparently, you can move the vents individually with a proper VAG-COM. Is this correct? I doubt you can do it with VWTOOL - maybe Mr. TwinCitiesS8 knows? Thanks.

Default That sounds like the AC charge is going down

As far as the other codes go....the first thing I would do is to perform a basic settings, but you can't do that without a vag-com. If everything works to your satisfaction, don't worry about it.

If you are worried about it and are going to keep the car.....I would suggest getting the Bently and a cable.

Default Paul can I press you for a bit of clarification?

I think you are right about the A/C. I had planned to wait until next spring and then to try your recharge trick. My questions are:

1. What does a "basic settings" do? I still may get a proper VAG-COM, but I thought I would try the less expensive route first.

2. When you suggest getting "a cable" are you referring to a proper VAG-COM or something else? Can you buy a cable for use with the VAG-COM that connects to the E87 controller or is it the same cable?
