I can't reverse! Ahhh.
Hi guys,
My 2.8 this morning decided it wasn't going to reverse any more. I only had a short journey this morning and went 1-5 nicely. When I start her up she shows she's in P. Then when I select R it goes straight to N but beeps to tell me I'm in reverse. Go to drive its fine. Go to 4 fine 3 and 2 go back up to drive. Go back to park and it shows neutral but can remove the key. Can even select 1-5 through tiptronic and it all changes ok. Plugged her in and I have no fault codes for the. A/T
I am assuming the worse. But thought id check with you guys. Before I decide what to do with it. As it was going in tomorrow to get the work done for the dreaded MOT.
Thanks in advance

Thank for the reply, the gearbox is in safety mode now and will go into reverse with a nice clonk. I think I'm going to give up on it now. Spent so much in ownership of this car to keep it well! I can't keep throwing money at it So if anyone in the South of the UK wants a cheap '8 with a gearbox issue. But the engine was rebuilt only 7000 miles a go give us a shout!

It really doesnt sound like an internal issue. Sounds more like a cable issue, adjustment left loose, broken, or the actual range sensor switch on the side of it. I wouldnt give up the car over something that could be fixed for a few hundred dollars at a repair shop.
