Default idle air control valve

I am swapping a '97 A8 4.2l ABZ into a Porsche 914. The throttle body needs to be repositioned to clear body. This will require modification to the plenum between the throttle body and the intake manifold. The idle air control valve is mounted and ported to this plenum.

Must the idle air control valve be retained or is it possible to delete? Would a volumetric alteration to the plenum cause noticeable problem?

Thank keith

Interesting car to put that in ... would love to see some photos of the progress.

Since that model engine doesn"t have electronic throttle, I think the idle control valve is pretty necessary. The ecm controls idle directly though this valve ... the 40v models that came next have electronic throttle with no ICV needed. When the ICV's fail, people report stalling problems.

Cheers
