Ignition Control Module Faulty
Had a problem late Friday when one cylinder (#4) stopped working. Tried swapping ignition packs, then plugs, but still same cylinder faulty.
Read a few threads saying that the ignition control modules could cause this, but doubted it.
After checking the wiring and pulling the rocker cover to inpect the cam, I finally swapped the connectors over from one ignition control module to the other and the fault moved to cyl #3 - fault found!
By this time it was Saturday PM and all Audi dealers and most parts shops were closed. Did a quick search and found the price was about $350 <ouch>.
Another thread revealed that the modules could sometimes be repaired: -
https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2162439.phtml
Followed the instructions and found my module had exactly the fault described - soldered it and hey presto, back on the road again.
Will probably buy a new unit and keep the repaired one as a spare, but for a get-you-going tip, this one takes some beating.
Thanks AudiWorld

Re: Ignition Control Module Faulty
Good to see a happy ending RG, good on you!
Have thought about LPG for a while, with petrol so expensive now, it makes sense. Where is your tank? spare wheel well or behind rear seats?

LPG
What LPG installation do you have? What are the differences in fuel consumption and performance?
With my Prins in average I use 1,2 times more gas than gasoline (basing on BC readout) and I'm to 60 mph about 0,3s slower.
I have tank instead of spare wheel - it's 60ltr, but it shall be possible to put 65-70 ltr in there.

Re: LPG
I have the OMVL Dream 21N direct sequential injection system fitted - this has solenoid operated injectors for each cylinder and a separate piggy-back ECU - injects into the inlet manifold, close to the cylinder head.
The tanks are in the boot, almost filling it, and hold well over 100 litres (at 80% full). There's just enough room to lift up and slide out the spare wheel from below the rear tank.
Uses about 20% more LPG than Petrol, but at 28p/litre compared to 83p/litre, I can live with that.
Performance is slightly affected so if I can predict that I'll need maximum acceleration I tend to switch back to petrol, but that isn't often. I drive about 1200 miles each week and only need the extra 'boost' two or three times on average, and that's usually just when I feel like playing.
I have saved over £3000 in fuel so far this year, allowing for the increased consumption. The current equivalent figure is around 40mpg (UK).
Have had some trouble with a gas injector, but that is excusable for the saving.
1997 A8_D2 UK basic spec (no gadgets).
Running on Gasoline OR LPG (Propane) at a 'price equivalent' of 40mpg(UK).
181000 miles.
