Default Inching my way closer to buying the A8L.....

My previous post was about what I should look for, and I've found absolutely nothing wrong with the car.

SO, I've done some major research, got an audi tech to break the law and give me the service history, and I've found a few things.

Everything was done at the Audi Dealership BUT the timing belt, which means no history on the stupid thing.

As it sits, in Calgary weather, Audi recommends the belt to be changed at 85000 kms and 170000 kms, the car has 169xxx kms on it, but there is no history. SO basically I will be taking a gamble on buying this car, personally i think it would be very unlikely for that car to be on the road still with the original timing belt, but then again am I willing to take that risk.

Which brings me to my next question, should I buy it thinking that the belt has been done and replace it ASAP, or leave it for some poor guy that will get ripped off.

I really want the car, it's comfy for long drives, the engine has *****, and it has lots of buttons to keep my occupied for a few years at least.

What do you guys think?

Rule of thumb: if you don't know the status/history of a timingbelt: replace it! NO discussions ;-)

Default I would negociate to have (part of) the cost of a TB job subtracted from the price.

Alternatively, subtract the partial cost of a TB failure from the price. ;-)

That won't give you the status of parts like the waterpump, rollers etc. A belt can look okay but...

I'm going to be reasonable and pay for half of it at least, but we'll keep this a secret, I have an Audi tech now that my uncle knows that will do it for a 40oz of good white rum

So really I'll be making money off that stupid shady dealer =)

exactly!

which is the reason why I don't want to "check" it. If i did that I would just replace it seeing as how the front end is probably torn off already while checking it.
