you can take your headlights apart and clean the inside of the glass...makes a difference
if that helps at all. IF you want to upgrade to HIDs, check out vvme.com. They make pretty reputable kits from what ive seen on vwvortex and audizine, etc. and, yeah, post pix so we can see what you mean.

you can also get new lenses from vagparts.com, I changed mine, ligths like new for $120 shipped.
you do have to email them as its a special order part but hardly a problem.
