Interesting trans development
Hopefully some of you remember my initial posting about the Level10 transmission after I had the work completed, so I have a little update:
The transmission still doesn't hunt between 5th and 4th gear when a good amount of throttle is applied, it just downshifts and goes.
However, I have noticed that the TC unlock/lock issue has sprung up again but nowhere near as "bad" as with the stock TC. When the engine/trans fluids are not fully warmed up, coming down from 60 or so mph, I will feel the "thunk" and the RPMs fluctuate slightly (100 or so RPM). Once everything is up to operating temperature, this event does not occur.
Lastly, I've noticed a new behavior in "D" in 4th gear after having driven the car for a while (IE fully warmed up fluid). After shifting into 4th gear, the torque converter will unlock completely causing the RPMs to shoot up a few hundred. At first I was worried it was the transmission slipping since the situation is reproducible. However, it does not exhibit this behavior in any other gear nor does it exhibit the situation in TIP mode.
So my theory is that the software that controls the transmission is responsible for many of the "quirks" that we see with the Tiptronic. I now have different hardware, but am seeing many of the same symptoms.
Any input/comments/corrections are appreciated. Just throwing out some food for thought.

GIAC A8 and S8 tranny chips
A8 Part #4B0927156CP-0260002676
S8 Part #4B0927156CP-0260002778
The torque converter lock/unlock issue should be a simple software fix. Do these GIAC chips solve the problem? Has anyone ever talked to GIAC about it? I expect that GIAC would sell one heck of a lot of tranny chips if it solves this simple torque converter problem.

Not sure if anyone has talked to GIAC
However, other L10ers that have used the GIAC tipchip in conjunction with the L10 hardware have reported brutal shifts. The tipchip increases ATF pressure and the L10 upgrade includes a higher flow ATF pump; add those together and while you may be helping out the trans, you drop down a notch in streetability.
PS, I dont have an A8/S8 just most of the guys on the B5 S4 board have limited knowledge of the ZF trans. The ZF experts are here on the D2 board
