Default Leak during heavy rains at the sunroof controls/telematics module... likely culprit is the missing

sunroof water channel at the rear of the assembly. See mpollan's with channel, and mine with broken arm missing channel.

Water channel part number is 4D0877633, and doesn't seem to difficult to replace. Anyone have any experience with this part? Anybody happen to have one?

Mpollan's with channel...

Default The channel is in the back

When the equal part broke on our 1996 A6, The channel was fished out of the space between the roof anbd the headliner with a bit of coat hanger.
The repair was made by mending the broken bits with JB weld, wrapped with fiberglass cloth and a bit of fine wire through drilled holes to jig the parts as the adhesive set.

Not pretty, but it works!

Default How does channel at rear cause leaks in the front?

Have you tried cleaning the drains? There should be four drains, one from each corner of the sunroof opening. In the earlier sunroof cars, the Bentley suggested running something flexible like speedometer cable (maybe weedwhip string would be better??) through the drains from below.

Default mine is broken too

I heard a noise quite a few months ago that sounded like a crunch. then just a few weeks ago the damn thing wouldn't open at all. I figured out how to open it a saw that both sides were broken. I took the roof panel off and found that it has something to do with the inside cover. I removed the whole thing and now i have to reach in and pull the cover forward it close it. the broken pieces are still sitting in my trunk till i get around to fixing the damn thing.

Default Preventive maint.tip: Proper lubricate the parts of the sunroof. Mine still moves smooth and silent.

I use whitegrease and a painters brush/pencil to get into all the tight spaces. I do this twice a year.

Default How?

From what I gathered, the sunroof panel is not designed to seal water out, the rubber trim is there for wind noise and air movement control.

When water does enter the crack between roof and sun panel, it must be carried away to the drains that are located only at the sides.

So... depending on the attitude of the vehicle, just were the water decides to drop in, and the condition of the drains, water that makes it by the sun roof wind seal could show up at the control panel, or just about anywhere on the headliner. Oh the stain!

Complexity has it's requirements!

Default Common failure on the C4 cars, mine was busted and leaked under braking. Easy to fix, could...

...even JB weld it if the channel is still 'there'.

It's not ridiculously expensive tho IIRC. They bust when the 'tilt' is used and the roof panel is iced in I think.

Bummer tho, good luck.
