A little help on wheel bearing tools info.
I am going to check the axle bolt this weekend. Is it a standard socket or is it an allen wrench? I have figured out that it is most likely the bearing that is causing the clunking and such. Also, it would improve my gas mileage as well! ECS is going to replace it at 170 labor and 55 for the bearing kit from my own source. 230 is a lot better than 380 from Fred Baker Audi.

Re: A little help on wheel bearing tools info.
My 2000 has 4 somethings, recessed, don't recall if they were allen, torx, triple star, and I don't THINK they were as big as 17mm head which would be huge. If I had to guessmember I would say about 10 or 12 mm star, or then allen. I would not bet money on this recollection. Perhaps you could post what they actually are.
This setup certainly beats a pressfit, whatever size it is.

Axle bolt is (usually) a 17mm recessed hex ("allen") head
apparently, there are some standard hex bolts with a 34mm (I think) head floating around out there, and maybe even both on the same car.
Yes, 17mm is huge. I had trouble finding one. Someone referenced a set from Autozone, but I bought mine from the SnapOn truck.

Re: I'm referring to the bolt at the end of the axle at the wheel
I was referring to the 4 holding the wheelbearing in my 2000)The single axle bolt is a 17mm allen for sure. Sorry for the confusion.

You will have to pull the axle
Loosen the axle nut prior to removing the wheel, then you will have to undo the upper control arm bolt and remove the tie rod end.
Then remove the axle bolt, and probably both lower control arms, and you can pull the suspension arm off the axle.....plus you'll need to remove the caliper.
