Looks like I need a new tranny, my 98 with 140k lost all forward gears.......

I guess it was only a matter of time. I'm not sure about what to do. I have not been able to find a shop locally who will rebuild it for a reasonable amount. I went to one local indy shop, they wanted $1900 in labor(19 hours to remove/install) plus $5000 for a new tranny. That's not going to happen. If I can't get a rebuilt one with a 12 month warranty installed for around $3500 I might just sell the car as is. Anybody know a indy shop in the Seattle area who are familiar with these transmissions? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Thank you.

19 hours removal and install? OMG!
Gabor and myself took my transmission out, put it on the bench, 55 minutes. (2 man hours)
Another guy took it apart, found the problem, repaired it, about 2 hours.
We put it back in and everything back on the car, about 2 hours (4 man hours).
But I'm sure you already know this. Somebody out there has to know how to rebuild these things. Good luck!

have you thought about doing the R/R yourself? Pretty sure it could be done on our style lift.
I've alreday had the exhaust, driveshaft and subframe out before which is probably 50% of the work.
Ship it to Tozo? Maybe not so far fetched.... $200 each way?

i bet you could flatbed it to chicago and back for under $1000...
and if paul says they can bang it out in a day...shoot...they would charge time, materials and prolly a couple cases of fine beverages.

I have looked at the R/R on Audipages before, and it seems a bit daunting......
But I guess if I got stuck I would have you guys to help out.... so I think it's something I should be able to do.

Sooo, what would the CHI-TOWN Boys charge for the rebuild??? My A8's time has come...
I'd prefer to deal with it before I'm stranded or without wheels.
I'm in Toronto and could arrange a "business" trip to Orlando out of Chicago to drop it off for 4-5 days.
I would figure I'd find a cheaper flight from Chicago to Orland then Toronto to Orlando. Take care of my business and pick it up on the rebound.
Paul....Gabor......???????
