Lower Fog light Grills

Ok so it seems like its next to impossible to find these grills. I have owned the car for 3 days and my passenger side grill has fallen out. If anyone has a source I would greatly appreciate it. However if not would anyone like to get together with a 3d printer and make up a batch of them?

Thanks

Tim

There is a guy on Ebay that is already printing them. They are $100/side.

2001 S8 11-03-2014 09:55 AM

$187.00 + s/h per side from ECS Tuning but they're guaranteed to fit. Ebay fitment may be a crapshoot.

Good luck.

$200 for a piece of plastic trim hurts my soul.

123quattro 11-04-2014 06:59 AM

Go to an Audi dealer and give them that PN and see how much they want for it. You'll feel even worse.

Lol, agreed.

Which side do you need? When I got my L, one side was missing as well and I had 2 from the same side; judging by my sig, I'm pretty sure I've got 2 of the left side when looking at the front. I'll check to make sure when I get back to my garage. If it's the side you need I won't ask for anything remotely near $200.

Eightmn 11-04-2014 03:29 PM

I need the passenger side and will be eternally in your debt. Even after paying for it.

Yup it is the passenger side. PM me and we can discuss.

Know of any drivers side laying around haha

Or go cheap functional and ghettotastic...

https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pr...p?Product=3641

Paint it flat black and use a couple of mini bungees to secure it from inside.

Lol I like the way you think
I'm thinking you could cut the grill at the right points so it would attach right into the holes for the original piece

Has no one had luck with Shokan? They seem to wreck these models all the time!

...They just don't like sending stuff overseas!

Eightmn 11-06-2014 03:38 PM

Shokan doesnt have any i tried.

Hmm... might put a couple of strategic screws in place to preserve mine then!
That worked for the A4...

123quattro 11-07-2014 10:02 AM

I tried shokan. They had several wrecked cars. Either the front bumper was trashed (front end wrecks are the most common) or the grills had already fallen out.

They also don't like playing fair with their prices...biggest gougers in the business.

If you can find the identical item on eBay or elsewhere, it's half or less Shokan price.

Even though you'd have to be insane or totally misinformed to consider a used cam adjuster, for fun I asked for quote...I found a brand new OEM adjuster for slightly less than their best quote on a USED one!!!!!!

Asked for a quote on an Allroad sunroof cover (headliner part)...I easily found one in perfect condition on eBay at less than half their price..they were asking over 2/3rds (almost 3/4) of brand new retail price!!

Shokan = last ditch desperation.

Shokan = unrepentant rip-offs

+1

They wanted $550 for a used auto dimming rear view mirror.

nossisnave, are you getting my messages? I really can't tell from my message box if they are working.

Thanks Again

Audi A8 fog light grills

After spending a considerable amount of time looking for the passenger side fog light grill for my 2003 D2 A8 L, I decided to retrofit the grills from an A4 (for about $30 for a pair on eBay) and screw those into place instead. They obviously are not a perfect fit and that's why you have to screw them in place. If you don't look too closely, you won't notice that these came from a different car. Funny thing, everything on this particular model costs more and is harder to find. Transmissions, engines and nondescript parts like this for later model A8s (and A4's and A6's for all years) are a dime a dozen. But parts are harder to find for 1997 to 2003 A8's.

Eightmn 11-13-2015 01:39 PM

Well an awesome member actually sent me an extra one he had laying around for nothing. So I will now need to pay it forward somehow.

jfrahm 11-27-2015 07:58 AM

I've done the same with A6 grills from around MY2000, $16 a pair.

Helllp i need these desperately :)

Y888 12-17-2015 12:17 PM

I just ordered oems from germany along with lower valance.
its almost 50% cheaper than in usa.
280 euros(490$ here) for valance and 75 euros(265$ at ecs) each for fog light grilles.

nw-indiana 12-31-2015 01:39 PM

Does anyone have a set of spares lying around?

It seems that we could 3d scan those and print replacements. It might take a while to get it right, but $3 a pound for plastic is a lot cheaper than $200 for a few ounces.

Y888 12-31-2015 08:22 PM

If its that easy there would probably be some printed ones for sale.Probably not that easy :)

the_duke 01-01-2016 06:03 AM

It is very easy. If you have a 3d scanner and printer.

I have access, actually.

nw-indiana 01-02-2016 09:44 AM

The 3d scanning and printing gear I can use is Makerbot.

It might work for this, with some cleanup on the models, but the precision is lacking. It looks like I would need something better to really do a good job.

You can see quality comparisons here:

My car is missing both and it looks like the passenger side grille was RTV glued into place the last time because its all over the inside of the hole. I'm scared to really look and scrape it off....

omarcarbomb 12-23-2016 08:48 AM

I will sell you a pair

As I pm'd you, I will take them. I have a 2001 A8L. I spoke to a local Audi parts guy and they have the same part number for 2000 & 2001.

dgcantrelljr@verizon.net 01-02-2017 04:28 PM

It appears I'm also in need of one of these gold plated platinum plastic bits... I need a passenger side one. I'm seeing $257 from various OEM sources. Anybody got a spare to sell?

Thanks,
Dave

illa noiz 01-07-2017 03:38 PM

Use a cable tie to keep them in place. ;)

S8LEE 01-08-2017 02:36 PM

still need a set...

dgcantrelljr@verizon.net 01-08-2017 05:15 PM

I'm still looking. And yes, zipties will be employed this round. We've had this thing since 2009 so I guess I was lucky they stayed on this long. Just need the passenger side but if I could score a set for a good price, I'd have a spare.

+1 for zipties...I've been using black ties for 10 years. In my experience, bumping a parking lot concrete stop or curb with the underside of the skirt flexes the front bumper enough to let them out.
