Default The new Audi A8

<center><img src="http://www.autobild.de/archiv/ausgaben/2000/03/13/aktuell/0.jpg"></center><p>The German Car Magazine "AutoBILD" showed today some pictures of the new Audi A8. It is announced for early summer 2002. This are the planned engines:

* A8 3,0ltr V6 5V, 210hp
* A8 3,7ltr V8 5V, 260hp
* A8 4,2ltr V8 5V, 310hp
* A8 6,0ltr W12 4V, 450hp
* S8 4,2ltr V8 5V, 360hp
* RS8 4,5ltr V8 5V Biturbo, 500hp (comes later)
* A8 2,5ltr V6 TDI 4V, 180hp
* A8 3,3ltr V8 TDI 4V, 225hp

The new A8 should be available with Multitronic, 6speed manual and 6speed Automatic. It´s shure that there will be only a "real" quattro system in this new car, no Haldex-System like in the A3. The A8 will even get an electro-hydraulic brake system.
But on the first look You can see the similarity with the announced "big Volkswagen", both use the new D2-platform. I really like the "old" A8´s look, the new one only looks like a re-bagded VW...

Default Sure, but they planned to replace it with Haldex

There were rumors that Audi planned to replace the Torsen System with the cheaper Haldex drivetrain in the new A8. But thank god they must have thinked it over ;-)

Looks more like a Passat than an Audi -- I'm afraid it will be the 'Janet Reno' of the audi lineup.

Default I'm glad to be the bearer of good news…

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/Not_03_A8.JPG"></center><p>…the Auto Bild pix are a phlight of Photoshop™ phancy performed on the pictures above.

Not to worry, the next A8 doesn't look like the green monster seen in AB.

Default Which is it, are the real pictures the ones where the A8 looks like an A6 from the

rear or the ones that someone claims were retouched? I wouldn't want an a* that looks like my A6 4.2 but I'd really like one that looks like that cool green car. I f it was retouched whoever did it has a future as a car designer!

Default I really doubt You´re right

because until now the Photos they provided until now ever have been extremely close to the real product. And I had a conversation with a Engineer from Audi Germany that sometimes helps me getting Info´s for my V8. He said that these pictures are very close to the truth...

So in the end the new A4 will lokk like an A6 which even looks like an A8. So we get the same Problem BMW already has: all models look the same...

Default I´m sure that the new A8 will look like this

The pictures aren´t just some fake pic´s I found somewhere in the net. Of course they are produced with the help of some special software (like all pre-production photos), this is the only way to show people how the new car will lokk like...
