Default Of course they were doctored pics, but I find that they make sense.

I can totally see Audi making their cars A6-like in shape with w/ TT'ish details, such as the headlights, interior components, etc.

Default Ask your engineer friend what happened to…

… the lead designer of the release version of the A8 after THE clinic and subsequent Piech review.

Default The old Designs were replaced by the model shown above

In Dec. 1999 the new A8 project was almost ready, but in the deciding session (Product-Strategy-Commitee) it failed. A few days after that the responsible engineer changed over to Porsche. In March this year Piech came and checked the project status, but even without any decission. But it´s sure that the new A8 will look very similar like the pict´s I posted, because BMW plans to present the new 7-Series next year which surely will be a great success, so the actual A8 get´s way too aged out compared to the new S-Class and the new 7-Series. And there isn´t enough time produce a new design. Piech seemed to like the new A8, so it´s almost sure it will go in Production and perhaps the dealers will get it Summer 1002...

Default Please reread the above post. The issue was what happedned to the…

lead DESIGNER for the G2 A8. Not the design. Hell, I know what happened to the design.

And it ain't quite made of the stuff that AB showed.

Quattro is a generic term, unfortunately they use it to describe any of their forms of AWD

Default if the new a8 is going to look like that...

...then i'd better start driving my '99 4.2 a little more conservatively.

Yes, today Audi names even the A3´s Haldex-System quattro. But when the A8 did come out in 1994 here in Germany, there wasn´t a Haldex-System, and all Audi´s with 200hp and more were only sold with quattro. And I mean real quattro (Torsen diff full time AWD). The A8 2,8 was only available with FWD at that time.
1996 Audi changed that with the A8 3,7 which had 230hp and FWD. And with the Golf-based A3 Audi even named the Haldex-System quattro...
