Default Noise in the wheels turns to be from the gearbox. What causes gearbox issues???

When buying the car A8 2001 94.000 kms, I noticed that there was a noise in the front wheels including car thrilling.
After replacing the tires, several wheel balancing; replacement of front brake discs and bearings from the dealer where I purchased the car (Toyota dealer), he told me to take the car to an Audi dealer for second opinion. I took it today and the Audi dealer says it is the gearbox.....He could not tell me what may have caused it.
The noise is a kind of roaring noise at low speed. At higher speed the car shakes a little beat.
Question: any body has an idea what may cause such gearbox problems? Can an accident cause it? Is it normal to have a gearbox failing at 94.000 kms?

Default I'm assuming that by gearbox you mean transmission and not final drive/differential...

If that's true, then a lack of maintenance with a hard life can cause problems with your trans. If it's the differential, the only thing I could imagine would be an undetected loss of fluid, or flawed internal components that finally let loose. Is the Toyota dealer unwilling to pay for the repair? Were they aware of the problem when you bought the car?

Default Yes 2Tonic...I mean transmission. As for the Toyota dealer.....

It was reported to them today. I have yet to see their reaction. Meanwhile, I am gathering information to know more about the A8. I have an old 15 years old Fiat Croma. I neverhad serious problems like this...and I am sure no body touched the transmission till now..and it is doing well

your symptoms do not sound like a trans issue but more like a wheel bearing (noise + vibration)

Default I would agree that I have never heard of a trans noise like yours

I would think it is something else. Are the tire new?
