Oil Cooler Pipe

For months I've been trying to get exact details on this with no luck. I'm needing to replace my oil cooler pipe. I keep hearing that I need to pull the motor to do so, I've also heard the opposite is true. Can anyone get me instruction on how to remove and replace it and whether I need to pull the motor? I'm leaking near a gallon of coolant a week even with the car parked and would like this resolved ASAP. Thanks in advance.

If you decide to DIY or farm it out, do not use the POS plastic pipe from Audi. Get this: https://www.gruvenparts.com/4-2l-aud...l-cooler-tube/

A lift makes it a lot easier

Always get mine from James, after all it is known as the Bufkin pipe. Cheaper and never had any issues, on my 4th pipe now, ordering another next week.

I have a lift and all I did was take off the passenger front wheel cover. Then take out alternator and then proceed with taking out the oil cooler housing. I would have to do a long thread to say how I did it but it was awesome not needing to take off front end and taking out engine like most people say to do....

You mean the wheelwell liner, I presume. Would you say the write-up at audipages A8 Oil Cooler Removal and Reinstall covers the actual procedure you used once you had the alternator out?

I added some ramblling notes to the original instructions specific to the 40V engines down at the bottom of the original write-up. It covers alternator removal.,Tools/sizes needed. Beer to drink. Swear words are your choice. No engine removal or front service position required. The assembly only goes in one way from underneath, but it does go in. I did it on some plastic Rhino ramps. It's not rocket science, just difficult/awkward access. The first time I didn't know better and used OEM plastic pipe. The last time I did it with the Bufkin pipe, I had the heads off, so it was a breeze. Once you break free the five torx fasteners, you are home free.

I thought its the pipe leaking but turned out to be radiator,1000$ later no big leaks but still need to replace hose that goes into coolant tank.
Here is how much i paid for the labor for oil cooler pipe to be replaced when i did timing belt.
If i was replacing only the pipe it would be probably 8hrs of labor.
