Default oil cooler water pipe leak fixed today.

I dropped the car at the dealership at 9.30am and picked it up at 4.15pm all done.
The small pipe that carries H2O from the block into the cooler is made of bakerlite plastic and simply cracks at the point where the groove is for the o rings at each end.
The resident and very switched on service manager pointed out that as the grooves are square shaped they are definitely a weak point.
Seems a lot of work for such a small peice of troublesome pipe.
This is evidently a resonably common cause for small amounts of coolant loss.
I was losing about 1/3 -1/2 of a liter a month.
The job involved removing covers -serpentine belt[the space to pull the cooler in front of the right axle is at best tight] and unbolting the cooler-replacing gaskets and pipes with o rings then reinstalling.

How long did it take to repair the trouble and how much did you pay?
I have the same problem now and my dealer hesitates to tackle the problem .There are apparently cases where the leaking startet shortrly after the repair.
Thanks a lot.

Kind regards

Gerd

Thanks a lot for the pictures, Now I can better imagine how things look like. Where is the lttle tube connected to the engine and where is the counterpart aperture in the cooler casing?
Could you describe that I can locate it on the pictures?
Perhaps I can try to seal it without disassembling or having disassembled the whole thing.
Thanks again.

Kind regards

Gerd

Default no sorry it is completely behind the cooler and carriie water into

the unit direct from the block. The cooler has to come out.
The leak apparently does no harm in itself but costs in top up coolant and the risk of being caught out short.
