Oil Level Sensor leaking ... also a question about oil cooler leak

When i took the car in last spring for the 50k service, they said i needed a new oil level sensor. The sensor works, since it just came on the other day, and the oil was a little low. But i do have a leak coming from there. i called the dealer and they do not sell just the seal for it, and the sensor and seal is $90.

So im wondering if it leaks, does the whole thing need to be replaced? or can i get an o-ring for it somewhere, so i dont have to spend the $90.

Now onto the oil cooler. the car is leaking coolant from the front passenger side, its hitting the tray then leaking onto the floor. is this the sign of the cooler leaking?

I think you are going to have to spend the money.

I don't believe that there is an O-ring involved with this sensor. As to the coolant leak, you probably do have a problem with the oil cooler pipe and / or o-rings allowing coolant to leak. It is probably more evident when the car has been sitting overnight. Follow the procedure on www.audipages.com or give the info to your mechanic. This a PITA problem that takes less than $40.00 in parts to fix but several hours labor. You can replace the sensor while the coolant leak is repaired.

Good luck.

Questions & Comments:

Oil level sensor? Is that a new thing on the post-facelift cars?

Or are we talking about oil leaking through the oil pressure switch that's on the oil cooler/oil filter housing? This is very common, I just replaced mine.

If so, that's a $9 part and 30 minutes max. Manifests itself as oil on the passenger side of the engine. With the belly pan off, it looks like it's coming from the oil filter housing.

Now, the oil coolers tube and seals is another thing altogether, and will cost a good bit more than $90.

Re: Questions & Comments:

for some reason i thought the oil level sensor was in the side of the pan, on the driverside? dont know why i think that though. thought i saw it when i was under there with the pan off.
does anyone know for sure?

I don't know the answer either.

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe it must be towards the rear of the pan...

I've had times where my oil was low and the warning did not kick on unless I braked hard or I was going down a steep hill. Just an observation. Didn't 2000+MY had two sensors? I have a 32v so I dunno if this bit of info applies.

i think this is the oil level sensor, its definetly leaking from here.

i cant see from underneath where its leaking coolant from the passengerside. how can i check to see if its the oil cooler lines leaking?

also, how hard and expensive is it to do the left front cam seal? that isnt the valve cover right? its around the cam itself?
the dealer only wanted $300 to do it, so it has to be the cam cover seal right? otherwise it would be alot more if the cam/timing belt was involved?
