Based on what I could find, the Buna Rubber O-ring that Audi uses is only good for 250F which means that is close to failing and will fail if the car overheats slightly. With the thermostat problems on 4.2s I think this is likely one of the design problems with this part. The plastic also seems to degrade with time..
So I went with two standard 1/16" Viton O rings on each side. The pipe is 6061 Aluminum.
O.D. with the Orings fitted is .775-.78" which means it will fit as per the original plastic pipe.
$25 dollars, shipping included with 4 Viton O-rings.

Paypal via Echeck, or PM me and I'll send you my address.
O rings will be here later this week and the pipes will be here in about 1 month.
If anyone absolutely needs one, I can lathe one up.
In Austin (which doesn't have alot of Audis) the dealership is doing 3 of these a month!
That doesn't include independent shops.

My 2001 failed at 41,000 miles. The car came from Florida out of a lease, so reading your e-mail makes me believe that maybe the cars from the Southern part of the country are failing more often....

I believe it will seal better and prolong the life of the part.
Viton also has a 400F rating compared to the 250F rating of Buna rubber.
If an engine overheats just once, it could damage the factory buna O-ring.
