Overheating
#2
I'm not an expert by any means, but has the coolant been fully flushed and replaced? Is there any
signs of oil in the coolant? Oil or improper mix in the coolant would hinder its ability to cool the engine. If there are any contaminants in the cooling system, they would be susceptable to a boiling point, thus air is a less effective heat conductor.

i havent flushed the coolant..
recently... im planning to do it in a weeks time... i also suspect teh elec fan... not spinning to its full capacity and therefore not providing the extra cooling required when the a/c is turned on...cause the cars fine wiht teh a/c turned off...

Re: i havent flushed the coolant..
My 2001 A8L started overheating a few months ago and when I took it to the dealer it ended up being the water pump. I sure don't have the knowledge most of you guys have in this forum but maybe try to check the water pump. So they replaced the pump and the thermostat and now the car is not going over more than a quarter of the gauge. Good luck! By the way for water pump, thermostat and Timing belt the dealer charged me $1600. Ouch! Yeah!
