Startup rattle is now while running rattle. Threw two codes both bank two. Which side is that? I assume cam tensioner? How bad to run like this? Temp is now 14, would like to wait a little while to repair..

That is the driver's side (adjuster up front). The worst that could happen is if the pads shatter from all the extra chatter/movement...if the pad(s) break off, the chain will eat through the piston in no time flat...possibly with catastrophic (timing jump) results. When my passenger side started this, although really embarrassing in slow traffic, I let it go for a while...BUT I had installed new pads before this started (already shattered one) and knew the new soft ones could take the abuse for a while.

So the cam adjuster moves up and down and without the correct amount of pressure it is bouncing and causing the rattle? I'll have to pull the cover tomorrow. Thanks for the info. I found the dissection of the old unit interesting. I wonder if the worn bore could be sleeved?
