Assumptions:
Budget is $45,000 but you can "stretch".
Both cars are "used" with remaining factory warranty.
You don't have a lot of time to have the car in the shop and don't want to be a DIY owner.
You live in Malvern and sell high-end real estate for a living...

Bob oh Boy, you offer some tough conditions. . . . I think I would
1. buy the A8L ($60K) and paint it silver ($4K?) total $64K, OR
2. buy the 02 A8 for $40K plus a Kia for $20K to tow it back in forth to the dealer, total $60K.
Like I said; a tough question indeed.

Wait One Year
I would suggest on waiting as long as you possibly can. You dont want an early A8. Based on the new 7s, you can buy a two year old one for $45-48k all day long. I would wait a year and you can get a 2004 A8 for mid to high 60s.
If you can not wait, I would jump on the buyback. You will get the warranty up to 100k. Chances are if things get really bad, Audi will buy the car back again. I have never had a lemon so I can not comment on my ignorance. Good luck!
