My jack failed years ago, but am still overcharged! Gets harder and harder to keep up

Aluminum jack failed. Replaced with a steel one from another audi (same shape and size). Works fine

Yes, it slipped. 2002 Allroad
Luckily, I wasn't hurt.
Wow. This is perhaps second only to the heated steering wheel failures.

My D3 W12 dropped off the jack while changing a flat
This was at the side of the road, on tarmac, changing the offside rear wheel. The nearside rear wheel slipped on the loose edge of the tarmac and moved about 1/2 an inch. This was enough for the weight of the car to move the jack so that it became unbalanced and tipped over, pushing the offside wheel further.
The jack's foot remained where it was, the top of the jack remained in the socket in the underside of the car, but the whole back end of the car ended up moving sideways to the nearside as the jack acted as a nice lever to allow the weight transfer. It bit into the lower sills and ended up wedged under the car. I had to roll the car off it before I could extract it. Luckily, the flat wasn't off, just loose, so no damage to the drivetrain, and the lower sills on the D3 are shrouded in plastic that took the brunt of the bite from the jack body, so no structural damage either. It's a POS and I would rather call a flatbed than trust the S8 to it. |
The only reason mine has never failed is because I'm scared to use it!
Happened once on my B6 A4 and once on my B7 A4.
my 1973 VW beetle jack was *SO* much better.
2nd; have a steel jack and stands for home use and AAA for emergencies.
Lightweight aluminum jack + 4000 lb car = accident waiting to happen.
jack fell over, tilted and almost smashed my friends head in
wow.
no problems here. used it about 6 times. I've had 3 flats with my car.
The other times were rotating tires.
Yes, slipped from under car on a3 and bent...
Just print out all these postings and FedEx them to AOA.
Haven't used the jack myself on the A8 (but had used the ones in two previous, smaller, Audi's), partially due to existing warranty that covered tire service and mostly due to the numerous postings on this topic in the past!
Not once and I've used them 30 times or more since 2004.
Not yet, and I've used it for 6 six years to change to and from snows
It's called a 'tommy bar' and it's not expensive
Sort of, my slightly bent one night about two years ago and I havent used it since.
I've never had a problem - several audis - use it to put snows on
Yep (FIRST and Last Use) ... it bent then proceeded to scratch the side skirt and door blade.
NEVER. Used it several times on all wheels to clean my rotors and paint my calipers red.
Why did you paint the calipers red?
2nd, thats why they have heat warnings on coffee at Mcdonalds.
You didn't know that adds 5hp? He also has chrome wheels, which we all know are faster! LOL
lol
I need to get the pic of the Rav 4 I took today, off of my camera. Red-painted rear DRUMS!
YES! Had to use my BMW jack on friend's A4
Same thing happened, jack must've fallen forward at least 3 times before I decided (brain trust that I am) to stop using the jack and use the one in my BMW. Worked perfectly first time. Each time the car came down, the rotor smashed into the ground. Can't believe it didn't break. Now I have an A6 and will be getting a floor jack ASAP.
