Default Question for those who have the TC locking/unlocking problem..

1)If your tranny hasn't gone out yet, how long have you had this problem?

2)If your tranny went out, how long between the start of the TC problem and the time the tranny failed?

I just developed the problem recently and I am getting nervous! I did a flush 8K ago at 87K.

Default Kinda sounds like we're all driving time bombs...

not a matter of IF, but WHEN. Should I expect the same w/ my 2002 S8?

The "thump" started about 78K miles, bought it with 44K miles. Now have about 130K miles.

That was about two years ago, had the fluid and filter changed about 3 times since, particles found on the magnets.

7 track events later, 5 auto crosses under my belt, it still works. I now drive around in 4th.

If I knew somebody could fix it (I've heard that some have had them rebuilt and still have the same problem), I would have it rebuilt.

Under high loads, it works like a champ, under low loads, it sucks wind!

Default 98 A8Q

Thumping started at around 90k, tranny flushed at 112k and 150k, still thumping along at 176k without any other problems.

Default I don't understand... Are you saying that if you replace the transmission with a rebuilt one..

the problem may still be there.

Default No, if you rebuild your exisiting tranny, it might still be there

Is it the valve body? Is it a component in the tranny?

Who knows?
