Default Re Help Needed .. I week later still no joy... please help..

Hi again all,
So my man has stripped the throttle body, checked the injectors, checked the spark plugs. The fuel is definitely getting to the rail at good pressure. The code will still not clear and the car will still not start.

We are pulling our hair out now.

Does anyone have any ideas? I just want my 8 back... boo hoo...

At this rate its gonna have to go to the stealer....

anyone?

Thanks guys

"Hi all, Im writing from the UK.

Last week my 97 2.8 A8 (yes thats the european one) stalled in traffic while idling.

RAC (or triple A to you guys) diagnosed a failed fuel pump.

The car was towed to my trusted mechanic who also diagnosed a failed fuel pump after checking relays etc.

The car sat over the weekend while this new part arrived http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-Audi...4#ht_553wt_941

It was fitted and ran fine for 30 minutes . then it stalled and could not be restarted. The fuel pump assembly was re checked. Plenty of pressure at the rail.

Pulled this code --17967 - Throttle Valve Control part (J338): Fault in basic settings

and performed numerous TBA's .

The code will not clear and the car will still not start!!!

Im just about to have him strip the throttle body and maybe replace the ICV.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks for your help."

Default You need to vag the TPS.

If you don't have vag-com, measure the resistance between the 2nd and 3rd terminal with throttle off and the TPS terminals facing down. It has to be 960ohms - 1.02Kohms. Full throttle 2.4Kohms - 2.8Kohms.

Default Thanks tozoM8 , ill forward this to the shop.

I wonder what would cause this part to fail tho? I suppose it has done 160k.

My mechanic is using a snap on Solus diagnostic computer. Would this not do what a vag com does?

Stoosh, where in the UK are you based?

The fuel pump was replaced with a newer, better version in around 2000.

Check out This link for a little more info.

If you're a member of the A8 Owners Club, you'll get 15% parts/labour discount from AV Performance, which may well be worth the trip/membership fee

Hi Tony, thanks for this.
After researching the part on here i bought this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-Audi...0#ht_553wt_941 from ebay.
It went in easily and still works. When the engine is cranked the pump spins and fuel is sent to the injectors. It "seems" that the problem i have has come about since the battery was disconnected when the new pump was fitted. The only code that has been pulled through out this nightmare is the 17967 Throttle body message.

Surely if fuel is getting through (not just a dribble , good pressure) the pump cant be at fault.

Im gonna get my man to look at the TPS as referred to by tozom8. If that doesnt work then it will have to go somewhere with a vag com although im not sure that the snap on system my mechanic is using wont do the same thing.

Thanks for the other forum info. Im in Birmingham. Ill check it out as i go along.

Cars eh?
