Default Replacement tires

Or is that "tyres"??

The '99 is due for some new tires. My current rim protectors are Goodyear Eagle LS, 17.225.55. I am getting lots of road noise, and they were recently rotated. When the car was sitting, I noticed that the center part of the tread was depressed as compared to the outer treat. Is that what is known as "cupped"? Tire pressure is 35-37 all the way around. I think these have about 61,000.

Anyone have some suggestions? I am in MN (go Wolves!), so tires need to be decent in the snow. I am a fairly aggressive driver, but desire a smooth ride as well as low noise. Are there any options on fatter tires, or is that just a bad idea? Any cool wheel options out there?

I searched these pages, but too many results.

Keep on truckin'

Default 245/50-17 is your only option for a wider tire. ...

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is available in this size, and as Steve said, this would be a great choice, even for your MN winters. See A8/S8 Tire Options on audipages.

I'm not sure what your mean by "the center part of the tread was depressed". Do you mean that the center of the tread was worn more than the edges? Was the wear uniform? If so, it sounds like the tire pressure was low at some point, but 61k miles from a set of tires is pretty good.

By depressed, I mean that if you put a straight edge across the tread, the middle of the tread would have a greater distance from straight edge. No noticeable wear, and what wear there is appears to be uniform. I get a howling sound on pavement, which is bothersome to say the least. I actually have 64k on the car, and I bought it with 30k, so I don't know if they are original.

Thanks for the advice.

Default suggestion for an 18 rim?

Any recommendations for an 18" rim?
I checked out the Michelin Pilot sport A/S options, and they make a bunch for the 18" rim: from 225 to 285 wide. I don't yet know a ton about tire performance. But I prefer a smooth quiet ride and good snow traction, and am less concerned about high-speed performance. And I also note there are new "zero pressure" models out there. What are the pros and cons of those? Any guidance would be appreciated.

I just replaced my Goodyear's (crap) with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires and man what a difference! VERY QUIET compared to the GY's and also much improved traction! I would highly recommend these tires!

Default Re: Replacement tires

Any comments on Yoko YK420 or Conti CH95 in the 225.55.17 size?
