Rode around in my buddy's M the other day, the dark side sure is tempting
The A8 is prolly just a second and a hare slower to 60 but the rear wheel drive sure feels faster. And yet when it snows, his car doesn't get anywhere! Just my random thought for the day...

A better comparison would be M vs. S....
Sure, the M is going to be faster than an A8L...but compare the A8L to a 740, that's the comparable BMW.
The force is stronger with us than it is them

Agree. You can't compare a luxury model to a performance model. Compare it to the same-year RS4.

It's like comparing a cruise ship to a cigarette racing boat. Yes they both float on water ... but ... ummmmmm.
Take our 4.2 and massage it to 420 naturally aspirated HP, put it into a more taunt body and then compare that to an M series.

It was just my random thought, I know the A8L and M3 are two completely different cars
I know the A8 is a highway cruiser and the M3 is a sports car. What I found astounding was that the M3 felt very fast but when I looked at his speedometer while accelerating, it was not as fast as it felt. In my mind, the A8 could keep up if it did not have the slushbox trans.

From the dark side . .

I have had my "M" for two years now. Yep, it is fast, faster than the A8 I had or the S8's I drove. But if I had to do it again, I would get an S8. Winters suck and even in the summer, I prefer the quattro when accelerating out of a corner.
Breaking the rear wheels loose with power is only cool on youtube. It is a pain in the rear in real life. The wheels break loose all the time - it makes me miss my Audi.
Next time, I am going back to Audi. I am waiting to see if Paul and Gabor can really fix the D3 S8's one of these years. If they can, and if we can get an audipages for D3's, I'm in.
Bottom line: don't be tempted. Stick with your D2. It is an awesome car for the money. It fits Brian's 95% rule in every way.

Nice car
I love my Audi and if I need to get some shenanigans out of my system I go to my friends house (the one with the M3). His family is ridiculously rich and they have a corvette, a M3 and some other car on order.

OooooooooF Thomas - wow...
...Recall your moving 'on'
but
_wow_
!
LM's
FTMFW!
ooooooooF, again
Veryverynice e39... love the iteration you've created... despite that I'm only 1/2 (1/2) on board w/ rather having my //S. Tho what's funny is that my math is fuzzy... my "1/2" is the 95% you speak of. My D2 *is* likely the better (smarter) decision due to my driving in the snow all winter
but
8-).
Anywho, wicked cool car. It's also on the "next" list here.
What you running for rubber in the rear - curious (model / size)? Read: I roast (*roast*) the 245/16 rears off the 930 but it doesn't make other cars better... neads moar fuhtprint heh heh. Sometimes it's fun seeing all the black dust on the rear flanks. Sometimes.
Tx for sharing.
