RPM fluctuations while coasting in D or 5th, help!
I just took the 8 for a 660 mile road trip up in the Sierras to do some road biking and noticed something very strange. When I take my foot off the gas while the car is in either D or Tip 5 the RPMs will drop by 200-300 and then bounce back up to where they were. This would usually repeat itself at least twice, sometimes more. It would happen at between 60-80 mph (I never really tried it going faster). I thought at first that it might be a tranny hunting issue, but a 5th to 4th gear change would result in much more than a 200-300 RPM difference. Also, when in tip mode the car would show that it is staying in 5th gear. Any ideas on what it causing this? It is quite annoying. The car is a 98 with 95K. I flushed the tranny at 87K. I have had no tranny issues before. TIA!

welcome to our world. that is the hunting issue most of us have seen.
My 97 always did this and still does even after a tranny rebuild. So far no fix. Get used to it, I hate it also. Mine only does it in 5th gear too. Whenever I see this happen or driving around down I use tip mode or just keep it on 4th and have no issue.

Yes, that's the problem
Wish I knew what caused it, because I would have it fixed. Mine started doing it about 77K miles, and my business partner's 98, about 95K miles.
