S8 maintenance & upkeep

S8 maintenance & upkeep
I've waited awhile for both of these cars to become reasonably available at sticker or better, and so now I'm in a position to choose between an M5 or an S8. Currently I'm probably leaning towards the M5, basically because it's the more athletic of the two, but I'm worried about maintenance: I've heard stories about clutches letting go after 5k miles, and of a quart of oil every 1k miles. So I was wondering, how much work is it to keep an S8 up and running in good condition? What's covered under warranty, and how expensive is what's not?
Thanks,
Chris

All normal wear and maint items covered for the first 4yrs/50K.
Unlike BMW or Merc, this means brake pads, rotors, clutches ( on manual cars ), oil, and any other item that wears out ( but not through abuse ) or fails due to materials or workmanship.
The folks here with S cars seem to have problems with interior trim rattles and some mostly minor electrical problems. Do a search on the forum as reliability comes up often.
Keep in mind that the S8 is more like a BMW M740 if BMW made such an animal.
