S8 ownership - These cars are awesome.
Well I picked up a 2001 S8 this weekend. I was going to get my wife an A6 4.2 but she said she wanted my A8 and suggested that I should get an S8 for myself. Needless to say I did what she recommended before she changed her mind. My '98 A8 has 213,000 miles on it and still has the original transmission, thump & hunt included.
The S8 is everything Paul W says it is. It handles great and is much better riding than the H&R suspension that I have on my A8. Just the sound of the S8 engine as it shifts between 1st and 2nd is so incredible. This car is just plain incredible and I am totally amazed with it everytime I drive it.

That's really rare. It seems that most better halves aren't too keen on these cars being bought, so you're doing good. Now, when she drives the S8, you'll be back in the '98 a week later, just so we're clear. 
But seriously, congrats on picking one up. I also transitioned from a '98 to an S8. I have to admit, there isn't much I miss about the old car.

The transition continues as another one bites the S8 bullet.
We'll have to take another poll after the current S8 buying frenzy slows down to see the current A8 vs. S8 ratio of this forum...
