S8 running on 6 Cyl WHY!

I did not buy the car like this, it started shortly after. first thing I started to notice was the chain slap. Because I didnt pull out the exhaust cam, I only lined up the marks on the cams. (maybe this was my mistake) Im going to check the belt timing today. maybe its just a matter of correcting the timing slightly.
I had changed my timing belt some time before this, so all timing was still correct.
I know it's very tricky, with just one set of hands, to get the chain timing correct when replacing that adjuster.
I know it's a pain, but I'd consider pulling the valve cover again if the belt timing shows correct.
Curious to know what you find.

posting 1000X sorry, I was planing on having that cam cover off while I time the belt just to be 100% sure its right. Thanks for all the input, deffinently going to replace the pads on my other tensioner in the near future just to be safe. I do not wanna risk loosing this car again. Way to nice a vehical to make stupid mistakes. (esspecially coming from a base modle A4 Avant its quite an upgrade)

FOUND THE PROBLEM! Timing belt sliped a tooth. basically it added a tooth between one gap and super tightened the other spaces between toothed gears if you understand what im trying to describ. Sooooo lining up the cam marks, they match up nicely, but the crank is slightly left of TDC. Resetting timeing and getting a new belt. Ill confirm fix when she is together and bangin on all 8.

Just to follow up. I had bent valves, $950 later.... Running like a charm, piston heads didnt even have damage, and those valves were S shaped when we pulled them out ha ha. impressive engine I must say.
I also wanna bring up the starting and stalling and not starting issue I had mentioned. Turnes out it was a temp sensor. The thing got it in its circuts that its -140 degrees. IDK but hey easy fix. Thanks for your assisatance.
