Default s8 for sale

ok - I have my eye on a 2002 s8 about 45k miles for sle for $30k. Problem is when I run a carfax, I see a lemon buyback highlighted. The owner has documentation that this was for a faulty fuel gauge. Original owner was supposedly a doctor who was important to the dealer, and was stranded wiht an ampty tank, and dealer supposedly bought the car back. Does this sound like gibberish, or could it be real, and if so is this a good buy?

Default My 2 cents..

The price is excellent for an 02 with miles that low. I have seen cars bought back quite a few times over small stuff like a fuel gauge if the customer makes a big enough stink over it. Usually buy-backs are over something big, but you never know. There were fuel gauge issues with many brands of cars from Audi to MBZ and BMW as well as Jeeps if I recall. Fuel sending units would corrode and cause faulty readings. It took quite some time to get the problems taken care of. I am sure they probably replaced some of these with faulty units before the problem was rectified (I think they used a metal that wouldn't corrode)further pissing people off. Some high-line buyers have no tolerance for this and get a lawyer invloved and presto, you have a buyback. The only other negative thing that I have seen with LL buybacks is that they are sometimes ineligible for extended warranty coverage. I personally wouldn't be afraid of this car, just make sure the rest of it checks out.

Default My first A8

was a 2000 with 2750 miles back in 2001. I got it REALLY cheap (like 45K). The reason was that the car was delivered to the owner with a cracked window. The lawsuit that followed kept the car immobile until it was resolved. The car went to the wholesale auction market where I bought it from an online vendor. It had some minor issues that I took care of under warranty but it was fine. I traded that car in for an A8L in a nicer color.

If this S8 still has warranty, I would go for it and repair anything at all that is wrong before you hit 50000 miles.

That's part 2 to the question, if the car still has <50k miles, is it automatically eligible for extended warranty through audi? If so, do I purchase it through my local Audi dealer (the car is located out of state)? thanks guys!

I don't know if it will qualify for a warranty extension; call your local dealer and check.

Default Re: ****

The plastic **** that is used to scroll thru the nav. broke. The peg it sits on is fine. This is a minor item, but I wondered if the Audi dealer is the best source for something like this or are there other places to go? (2001 A8 L) Thanks, Dan
