If you're willing to spend $26k on the Phaeton, why not just find an S8 for that or less? 01 S8, 51k

the Phaeton is an amazing piece of machinery. I read that the CEO of VW wanted the engineers to make a car that could run and i quote
"that one ought to be able to drive the Phaeton all day at 186 miles per hour (300 km/h) when the exterior temperature is 122 degrees fahrenheit (50°C), and the climate control system should not let the interior temperature stray above 71.6 degrees (22°C). Piech requested this despite the Phaeton's top speed being limited to 155 mph (250 km/h)."
NOW THATS A CAR!!!!!! HOLY NICE!!!
its got touch screen at the back, auto levelers, air ducts that disappear behind a woonden cosole at the touch of a button, you can even make coffee in the back seat! UMM THATS TOO MUCH FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE...WHOA...as far as reliability...i also read that this is an over engineered piece of art...meant to last forever..literaly speaking.
TO top it offf...did you hear that this car is HAND assembled and crafted???? omg. a hand assembled VW...now thats amazing...for that price. I wish it would come back though and not discontinued.

Imagine when all these VW little-gadget motors start failing, and having to deal...
..with VW dealers where most folks bring in their Jettas and Golfs. Good idea, but unless VW formally launch a luxury division (which they have, it's called Audi), it makes little sense. The only reason that B. wanted to have this vehicle (knowing that most likely it would be at a loss) was as a halo to sell more Golfs. Obviously the quick tail-under-the-legs course-change (after CEO change) didn't add to the original goal.
