Hello all, new member with serious questions (not belittling any other member's questions)...I am trying to make an informed decision between nearly identical 91 and 92 Audi V8 4.2 Quattros (each have about 196000 kilometers on them and physically look near identical) and a 1996 A8 4.2 Quattro...all of them automatics, all appear to be well cared for.....what is the difference between the engines being 5 years apart? Will the parts availability be comparable?? This is a move I have hoped to make for a long time and I appreciate any and all help you can give....keep driving!

Of course, the price tag has some affect to the decision

But overall, i would take the A8. Mainly not because the engine differencies. (They are quite similar, probably the V8 has ABH engine and A8 has ABZ)

But the A8 has aluminum chassis (no rust), brakes are better (if the V8 has those UFO brakes they can be costly), and overall it is still more... premium.

But if the need is only for the engine, then the older might do the job. Though, at least in europe it had 20 HP less that the newer A8. (280 HP vs 300 HP)

I dont know where you are, but A8 parts are hard to come by, but the V8 parts are impossible to find. All honesty, I'd go with the A8 over the V8 and I've owned both.
