so long 98 A8, hello 01 S8!!!
Just traded in my 98 A8 for a 2001 Ming Blue S8 (32K miles). Wow!- what a difference! the power and gearing make for an entirely different beast!!
Couple questions for "new" fellow S8 owners---
1- I've read on some older posts about "the S8 whine" in the transmission. Mine has a whine, it seems more pronounced when cold, and in the lower 2 gears (probably because i can only "legally" reach redline in these two gears). When i put moderate to heavy acceleration into it, i hear an rpm-related whine. I'm not sure if this is gearing releated, tranny related, or possibly even a belt. Has anyone one else experienced the same?
2. Is the tranny the same in the S8 as it is in the A8?
In my 98, i did have the tranny fluid changed at 50k, and my dealer had no problem at all doing it. I do intend to do it with this car as well.

Looks like I should have done my DD on the trans. fluid. When you had your fluid changed did the dealer change the filter? Did the dealer bring up the fluid change or did you?

Transmissions have different gear ratios. What temperature is it outside when you hear the whining?
My car's had some whining noises from the engine bay today. Only during the first couple of minutes running the engine. It had been sitting outside in the wind all day at around 0 degrees Fahrenheit (about -18 degrees Celsius).
