drive through the city, I stopped for a red light, and bearbox remained in 4 gear, i started slowly and drive to home, i can put in R and its ok, but when i put in D, there are loud hit from gearbox and gearbox is still in 4 gear. what is the proble, please help.

If all the PRND4321 are lit, it's limp mode (5th gear only). Bad sign. My trans is apart right now for fixing the commonly broken A drum.

How do you know it's 4th gear?

Limp mode is 4th gear. 99% sure it has a broken clutch A drum and bearing.

I stand corrected. I didn't notice a bad bearing when I pulled mine apart a couple days ago. Which bearing is this? I gotta look more closely.

Maybe not? The clutch logic table for the 5HP24 shows that the A drum is used in gears 1-4, but not in R, N, or 5. My A drum is definitely broken, and the car was in limp mode, and drove well once it got up to speed. So limp mode in the 5HP24/A trans must be 5th, no? Otherwise the car wouldn't be able to move in 4th. Maybe the trans in the original post is only a 4 speed, not 5?
