Default Stock suspension needs to go. Input would be great!

I have a 98 with 19"RS6. Original suspension has to go. Damn near bounced off the road at 185KM (115 miles) yesterday. With he awesome top end these things have I reeled in a smaller car (G35, TL s-Type), then almost lost it in a long turn with a few bumps.

I'm in Toronto Canada, and although I do have some great snow tires I'm not sure if H&R coilovers will be practical in the winter.

1. http://www.stasisengineering.com/audi_a8_suspension.html

Seems like a great choose, but the $$$ is close to 3K US. They have adjustable damp and height. Check out the PDF on the link.

2. S8 suspension and sway bars.
Not sure of the year or Continent (Euro) I'd need. I think this is about 20mm lower but with a much better drive. I've heard many different prices, but I think it is because they are for different products. I have a buddy in Germany that could ship them if I give a part number.

3. bilstein sport shocks w/Eibach Pro-Kit
People seem happy with these and I think the cost is the lowest of the options.
How much do they lower and what's the cost.

Thanks for any input.

Default the S8 suspension wouldn't have worked much better in that situation.

Go with a firmer setup with better shock damping, if you want to be driving lively (ie, fast) on bumpy B-roads, or even down bumpy highways at high speed.

Default why H&R not practical?

you think that there's not enough snow clearance? That's kind of what I was worrying about. Sure would be great to have something with an easily adjustable ride height.

Default Coilovers give you adjustability. Regardless of shocks & springs chosen, you'd probably...

..need to firm up (fatten up) your bars.

I'm not happy with the S8 suspension/setup. It's fine during cornering at slow-speeds (eg, launching or around very tight corners at low speed), but at anything above 80mph, the car floats too much for my taste.. It doesn't insipire me confidence to push more in case I come up to a bump mid-corner on a fast sweep. I guess above 120mph, better aerodynamics and higher downforce would improve car control.

I still haven't decided what I should do with the suspension. I was really tempted by Sven's setup, but was hesitant without the expertise of a local susp. tuner like he had access to..

Default Re: why ...I need to go through a alley to get to my garage....

in the winter we endup with a huge ice mound down the center.

I had issues with stock this year, so I can't go to drastic.

Default The Eibach/Bilstein combo drops you around 1.25"

So S8 may be your only alternative.

JimR Take a look at the obnoxious wheel gap in my pix. I can afford 1.25". Not sure why it so big?
